Failure to yield leads to auto accident that injures deputy

Usually, it is Baton Rouge law enforcement officers who arrive at an accident scene to help those who have been in an auto accident and might have suffered injuries. What is easily forgotten, however, is that law enforcement vehicles are on the road just like any other vehicle and are vulnerable to the same dangers that everyone else is. A reckless driver, a negligent driver, a driver who is under the influence or a driver who simply does not follow the rules of the road can crash into a police cruiser just as easily as it can hit any other vehicle. When there is a crash, law enforcement officers can suffer injuries. They too can seek compensation in a legal filing after a crash.

According to a recent report, a car accident between a civilian’s vehicle and a deputy’s cruiser led to the deputy suffering injuries. The accident happened at approximately 5:45 p.m. It was at an intersection and the civilian driver is believed to have failed to yield. The sheriff’s cruiser was hit and he was taken to the hospital. His injuries were not reported as life-threatening. The deputy was heading to the site of another accident and was going through the intersection at the time of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

An auto accident can have a negative impact on a person’s life in myriad ways. It can lead to lost wages, the inability to function normally, the need for medical care and rehabilitation and more. This is especially worrisome for people who need to be able to move extensively to work, as is the case with a law enforcement officer. Even when the initial prognosis is that there is no significant danger for long-term issues for the car accident victim, problems can still arise as time passes.

Despite the initial belief that the deputy involved in this recent crash is not seriously hurt, he must still protect himself and may want to learn more about the available legal options after car accidents.
