Intoxicated boater seriously injures woman in crash

When the term “drunk driver” is referenced and there is an accident in Louisiana, it is often automatically viewed as involving a car or a truck. However, drivers operating any vehicle can find themselves facing drunk driving charges with people suffering serious injuries and death after a crash. This can include people who operate a boat while intoxicated. For people who have been injured or lost a loved one in a drunk boating accident, there is just as much of a right to file a lawsuit as with any other alcohol or drug-related crash.

According to recent reports, a woman was critically injured when a boat propeller hit her when the boat crashed. The incident occurred in the evening at around 6 p.m. when a 37-year-old man was allegedly driving the boat while under the influence. After the accident, the woman was taken to the hospital. The boat operator faces multiple charges after the crash, including reckless operation, DWI and vehicular negligent injury.

Just as drivers of road-based motor vehicles are repeatedly told of the danger and consequences of being a drunk driver, boat operators are also held to a similar standard, as they must be sober to operate the vehicle safely. When there is an accident, people can be injured just as badly if not worse when it is on the water. The same issues can arise for the victim including long-term injuries, the need for medical care in the short and long-term, lost wages, the inability to contribute to a family and more. A lawsuit can cover for what was lost and help the injured person or the family left behind.

A law firm that has experience with drunk driving accidents can help victims and their loved ones navigate a legal action following a drunk driving accident. This legal actin could help hold a negligent party accountable while also assisting with the recovery compensation for losses and damages.
