| Aug 24, 2018 | Car Accidents |

When there is a car accident in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas of Louisiana, the drivers involved are expected to stop and render aid to the others who were in the crash. This is especially important when the accident involves a pedestrian. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, a driver might decide to flee the scene rather than wait. Those who were injured or lost a loved one in a hit-and-run auto accident must know they have the right to seek compensation in a lawsuit, specifically after a hit-and-run with a fatality.

After a 25-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car, the driver fled the scene. The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. After hitting the man, the driver of a 2012 Toyota Camry, drove away. Law enforcement found the driver and charged her, a 72-year-old woman, with felony hit-and-run. The man who was hit, a father of two, died. The vehicle was found and she surrendered to law enforcement. The man died at the hospital.

After a fatal auto accident, the family left behind will face numerous questions without easy answers. This is particularly troublesome when the person who died was a parent. Funeral costs, family contributions in a financial and emotional way, and other issues will come to the forefront. Losing a loved one in a fatal pedestrian accident can cause long-term problems as the family determines how to move forward. While a financial settlement will not bring the person back, it can help the family with the variety of problems they will inevitably face.

When there is a hit-and-run, it is criminal act. As in this case, it deprives the injured person timely medical care to help them. That can turn catastrophic injuries that are common with pedestrian accidents into fatalities. When there is a hit-and-run, in most cases, the driver will be found. For the family left behind, it is imperative to have legal assistance in pursuing a lawsuit from a law firm experienced in car accidents so the case can be investigated from start to end.
