Police ramp up efforts to combat drunk driving

On Behalf of | Dec 11, 2019 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

The winter holiday season is here, and people across Louisiana will be going to parties and celebrations throughout the month of December and into the New Year. It is not at all unusual for people to have a drink or two as part of these festivities, and most people will do so responsibly.

However, there will be those who do not handle alcohol responsibility and will go on to cause drunk driving accidents.

For this reason, the Baton Rouge Police Department is increasing its presence on the city’s roads, in order to combat drunk driving. There will be sobriety checkpoints this month at several locations across Baton Rouge. Police will be on the look-out not only for drunk driving, but also for speeding, failure to wear a seat belt and underage drinking.

Unfortunately, even with this increased effort on the part of police in Baton Rouge, not every drunk driving accident can be prevented. There are simply too many people who fail to understand just how dangerous drunk driving is. However, those who are victims of drunk driving accidents may be able to pursue compensation for the damages they suffered through a negligence or wrongful death cause of action.

All drivers have a legal responsibility to drive reasonably under the circumstances. If a motorist breaches this duty by drunk driving and causes an accident that injures or kills another individual, the crash victims may need to explore their legal options for compensation, including whether it is possible to file a lawsuit against the responsible party for the damages they suffered.
