Auto accident on college campus injures four pedestrians

Car accidents can happen anywhere in Baton Rouge and across Louisiana, so it is wise for drivers, pedestrians and others on the road to be cognizant of their surroundings. This is even true in locations where there is supposed to be safety such as a college campus. Since vehicles will be operated on these campuses and there are often many people out and about - especially when the weather is pleasant - accidents can involve pedestrians and cause injuries and fatalities. When there is a crash, the investigation is key, but it is also important that those who were affected understand their right to seek compensation for medical expenses and other problems that come about because of the crash.

A two-car accident on the campus of Louisiana State University sent four pedestrians to the hospital. The accident happened in the morning at approximately 9:30 a.m. It occurred in an intersection. The impact sent one of the cars into the pedestrians as they were standing on the sidewalk. The drivers were students at LSU. The hospitalized pedestrians had non-life-threatening injuries. One driver, 22, was given a citation for failing to yield and for operating the vehicle carelessly. The investigation into the accident is continuing.

Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable when there is a car accident. Simply standing on the sidewalk does not accord protection from being injured or dying in a car crash. Since a pedestrian can suffer broken bones, a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord damage, cuts, bruises and more, having legal assistance is often the only way to recover adequate compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost income and other problems. While it might be tempting to accept a settlement offer from an insurance company, these offers are rarely sufficient to cover everything and the main objective is to preclude a potentially costlier legal filing. Those who were hurt should discuss their case with a legal professional before anything else.

When there is a pedestrian-car crash, those who were affected must think about the future and realize that even if they do not believe they were seriously injured in the immediate aftermath, injuries can arise well after the fact. Discussing the case with a law firm experienced in car accidents may provide information and assistance in moving forward with a lawsuit.
